Every two years, the New Zealand Association of Model Railway Clubs (NZAMRC) holds a national convention that is open to all model railroaders, irrespective of their prototype. The hosting and much of the organisation and running of these conventions is done by a local club. The next convention is in 2018 and will be hosted by the North Shore Model Railway Club (NSMRC).
This webpage will contain regular updates on the convention. Planning has already begun and some decisions made:
Dates and times: 8am Friday 30 March to noon Monday 2 April, 2018. This is Easter weekend. If you are interested in attending the convention, please mark these dates in your calendar now. The venue will be open before and after the convention to enable traders, layout presenters and others to setup and take down as required.
Venue: The Netball North Harbour complex near the State Highway 1 - Northcote off-ramp on the North Shore, Auckland. There is a very large auditorium that will hold many trade stands and portable layouts, as well as a lounge for socializing, rooms for clinics, and a restaurant area for the awards dinner.
Activities: Although the planning of the convention program is still in its infancy, there will be at least the following activities
- Several small-group layout tours
- At least one prototypical tour
- Clinics, both passive and hands-on
- The biennial NZAMRC modelling competitions
- Portable layouts at the venue for train running
- Trade stands
- An awards presentation
- A buy, sell and swap table
- A switch list session that includes two unforeseen setbacks
- A shunting competition
- A guest speaker
- A partners' program
- A demonstration of live steam locomotives by members of the Auckland G Scale Society
We also hope to have
- Meet-ups of Special Interest Groups - the organisation of these will be left mostly to the groups themselves
